A Benediction for the Brokenhearted

Because Even in the Breaking, You Are Held

Dear Lord, help me let go of what people think
The burden’s too heavy and makes my heart sink.
When I find myself at the bottom of a cold, dark pit
Raise me up on eagle’s wings and help me forget.

If ever my heart should bruise and break,
Help me still praise you the moment I wake. 
When friends desert me and I am alone,
Lord, assure me that I am still fully known.

When troubles come that cloud my weary sight
And I forget to seek thee late in the night,
Lord, help me find my strength only in thee
So when morning comes, I’m refreshed and at peace. 

When I struggle to focus on the moment at hand,
Remind me to move forward to the promised land.
Because the past will always be left behind 
and you’ll reveal the future in your given time.

In the midst of hard times and good ones, too,
Help me keep my eyes focused on you.
For your loving-kindness is always enough
to see me through in smooth times and tough.

Lord, please be present from day to day,
Your voice gives me comfort in every way.
You led me then, and you’ll lead me still,
Because of Jesus and grace, I know you will. 

Quiet my tired heart when it struggles to settle,
When my thoughts swirl and I’m stuck in the middle.
Lay your hand on my shoulder and assure me then,
That I’m armed for the battle, and together we’ll win.
